When you are a high-achieving athlete, who better understands your brutal training schedule, strict dietary regimen and all the sacrifices you have to make than another high-achieving athlete?
That is the case for these nine couples. From Lee Kiefer and Gerek Meinhardt‘s adorable love story to Gaël Monfils and Elina Svitolina‘s marriage made in tennis heaven, it only makes sense that these pairs get along so well as they’re made of people who are equally talented, driven and dedicated to their respective sports.
Below, see the Olympians whose partners are also competing at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
Katie Boulter and Alex De Minaur
For Britain’s Katie Boulter and Australia’s Alex De Minaur, love is so much more than a tennis term.
The pair both made their Olympics debut this year and were psyched to take the courts on as a couple. “My olympiannnnn 💛💚,” Boulter commented on De Minaur’s Instagram from the Opening Ceremony.
And while De Minaur’s run for the gold was cut short after he and his doubles partner Alexei Popyrin lost to American duo Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, Boulter and her partner Heather Watson are still in the running for the women’s doubles title.
Boulter and Watson beat Brazil’s Beatrice Haddad-Maia and Luisa Stefani to advance to the quarterfinals.
Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina
Perhaps one of the more high-profile couples at the year’s games, Gael Monfils and his wife Elina (née Svitolina) have been together circa 2019.
Though the tennis-playing pair briefly split two years into their relationship, they couldn’t stay away from each other. The two reconciled and swiftly got engaged and married on July 16, 2021. They welcomed daughter Skai a year later.
Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall
Track and field stars Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall are both representing Team USA at this year’s Olympics.
These two lovebirds were together long before competing on an international stage. The athletes first crossed paths at an Idaho high school meet back in 2017, and it was game over for Hunter.
“I was like, ‘Damn, that girl’s fine. I’m gonna marry that girl,'” he recalled in a YouTube video. They didn’t get together then, given the fact that Tara was from California and Hunter hails from Georgia, however, they kept in touch and were married in October 2022.
Lee Kiefer and Gerek Meinhardt
It doesn’t get cuter than fencers Lee Kiefer and Gerek Meinhardt who are both on Team USA.
The pair first met at the 2012 London Games and immediately hit it off. They got married in 2019 before heading to the (delayed) 2021 Olympics in Tokyo and are once again going for the gold in Paris this year. (And she achieved it, taking home the U.S.’ first gold in individual foil, an achievement about which Meinhardt shared an emotional post on X.)
As if being an Olympic power couple isn’t impressive enough, the two are also pursuing their medical degrees at the University of Kentucky’s College of Medicine.
Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield are quite literally having the time of their lives in their pursuit of glory for the United States and Jamaica, respectively.
Though there has been major rivalry between their countries especially in their categories — he runs track and field events and she does the 400 meters — it seems the two have managed to put all that aside and just celebrate the moment.
In a cute video posted to Lyles’ Instagram on July 27, the happy lovebirds use a popular sound to commemorate their presence at the Olympics. “2 Time Olympians” Lyles captioned the video.
Rossella Fiamingo and Gregorio Paltrinieri
Rossella Fiamingo and Gregorio Paltrinieri’s events couldn’t be more different — she is a fencer and he is a swimmer — but clearly, this Italian pairing is making it work.
In a post shared to Instagram on July 20, the betrothed couple can be seen proudly flaunting their respective medals around Paris. Rightfully so.
Lara Vadlau and Lea Schüller
One look at Lara Vadlau and Lea Schüller’s Instagram pages and you can tell that their love for the outdoors and sports is what helps keep their bond solid.
An Austrian soccer player, Lara Vadlau’s run for gold doesn’t start until Aug. 2, however, Schüller and the rest of the ladies on the German soccer team were knocked out of competition by the U.S. on July 28.
Gabriella Willems and Christian Parlati
Belgium’s Gabriella Willems found love with fellow judoka, Christian Parlati who hails from Italy.
Twenty-seven-year-old Willems walked away with a bronze medal in her face-off against Sanne Van Dijke of the Netherlands on July 31, while Parlati was surprisingly ousted by U.S.A.’s John Jayne.
João Chianca and Luana Silva
As professional surfers, it seems Brazilian couple João Chianca and Luana Silva never stray too far from the sea as their Instagram pages are filled with pictures of them hitting the waves, walking on the beach or just relaxing near the water.
The two are still in the running to bring back the big prize to their home country.
Honorable Mention: Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe
They may not be competing, but Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe remain legends in their respective fields.
Like Kiefer and Meinhardt, the basketball and soccer player first met at the Olympics, except their meet-cute happened at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. They began dating immediately after and were engaged in October 2020.
Bird has five Olympic gold medals from 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and Rapinoe holds a gold from the London Games in 2012 and a Bronze from the Tokyo Games in 2021.
