Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe are singing each other’s praises.

The retired athletes — who announced their engagement to one another in Oct. 2020 — relaunched their podcast, A Touch More with Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe, in August.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Bird, 43, and Rapinoe, 39, reveal what makes the other a great co-host. “I think Megan’s going to be great,” Bird begins, commending her fiancée on being “very thoughtful” as a podcaster.

“She’s also very funny and spontaneous with it,” the former WNBA star says. “So it’s going to have a balance.” Turning directly to Rapinoe, Bird adds, “You’re just balanced in your insight, but also bringing humor and a quickness with what we’re talking about.”

For Rapinoe, the first thing that comes to mind is: “Sue’s so smart and so funny.”

“I feel like sometimes I’m the one who’s got the best privilege to hear it all the time, so I think people don’t even really know,” Rapinoe adds of Bird’s wit. “Your homies know how funny you are, but also like Minority Report where it’s pulling everything, that’s Sue’s brain.”

Rapinoe says she looks forward to listeners learning of Bird’s unique ability to “pull all these different things, whether it’s segments or pulling things from the past and crafting a whole show.”

The former NWSL forward — whose jersey will be retired by the OL Reign on Aug. 25 — adds that she’s “really thankful” for Bird’s quickness and insight on their podcast. “It makes my job a lot easier,” Rapinoe quips.

As episodes continue to roll out, Rapinoe shares that she’s “looking forward” to Bird showing more of her “funny” personality and “getting her deep cuts in there,” as they discuss various topics around sports and entertainment on the show.

In the coming episodes, Bird says fans can expect appearances from special guests, “people who maybe add something to the things we’re already talking about,” and teases, “maybe it’s people you don’t necessarily get to hear about or hear from very often and their stories, their insight as well.”

Rapinoe says topics will be a wide range from “super serious or something that’s happening to something dumb and silly” on A Touch More. “It’s really not that far of a departure from when we’re at home,” she says.

“We’re kind of just dissecting it, talking about it, giving our opinion, sharing, you know what I mean? Going back and forth, it’s really not that different from what we’ve been doing as a couple just in our private time, in our own conversations,” Rapinoe continues, noting: “Now it’s just got a format.”

A Touch More with Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe, from Vox Media, is now streaming with new episodes debuting on Wednesdays.
